- Configure the domain and brand that your business or client “lives” under
As an advanced-level user, you have the flexibility to manage multiple brands within our dashboard so that each business you onboard can be configured to use shared or custom branding. You can think of the options in terms of where the core review funnel landing page lives:
- on a dedicated domain shared across businesses, like reviewMyClients.com/companyX
- on a dedicated domain for a given business, like reviewCompanyX.com
- or on a subdomain of an existing website, like review.CompanyX.com
- or on a subdomain shared across businesses, like reviews.domain.com/companyX
Note: If you want a review funnel landing page to live at a subdirectory of the business’s website, like CompanyX.com/reviews, note that this isn’t really accomplished through white-labeling or any DNS jiu-jitsu. Instead, you would simply embed the landing page widget (under Widgets in the dashboard) on the target page of the business website.
To achieve this level of flexibility within your account, the primary trade-off is that you do have to add a domain setting for each business you onboard—by default it will live on our domain.
How to Set a Custom Domain or Subdomain
In the Setup tab for any business in your account, look under Custom Domain. You can choose Domain or Subdomain.
Choosing Domain means that you will point a whole domain at us and we will handle all the routing to white-label everything and you don’t have to worry about A records, IPs, CNAMEs, etc.
Choosing Subdomain means that you will need to edit your own DNS records and point a CNAME at this particular page.
The Shared by multiple businesses box is toggled on by default. For a domain, this means that your landing pages will follow the protocol yourdomain.com/business1.
When toggled on for a subdomain, your landing pages will follow the protocol “reviews.yourdomain.com/business1”. Toggled off, your landing page will live on reviews.yourdomain.com
Using a Full Domain
You will need to set your domain’s name servers (with your registrar, e.g. GoDaddy) to ours. We’ll handle the DNS configuration so that your domain resolves to your page(s):
Example: Using a Domain Registered at GoDaddy
- Login to your account at godaddy.com
- Click on “My Account”
- Under Products > Domains, click “Launch” to launch the Domain Manager
- Find the domain you want to modify, and click on it
- Click on “Set Nameservers”
- Select “I have specific nameservers for my domains” and enter our nameservers (shown above)
- Click “OK”
Note: The new domain settings must propagate across the Internet before your domain will resolve to our servers globally. Propagation usually takes a few hours but can take as long as 48 hours.
One Domain Per Business
When you add a custom domain to a business for the first time, that domain will resolve directly to that business’s page. This enables you to use a given domain with a given client (say, branded with your client’s name) for utmost simplicity: the domain itself points to the page without any additional “/pagename” path required. Make sure the Shared by multiple domains is toggled off with this option.
Multiple Clients Per Domain
However, if you’d like to use a single domain for all of your clients, just add that domain as a custom domain to each business in your account and make sure to leave the Shared by multiple businesses box checked. That business’s landing page(s) will then be available at the domain-name-plus-the-business-shortname, like nameofyourfirm.com/client
Using a Subdomain
If you prefer, you can point a subdomain of an existing domain like review.yourdomain.com at a given landing page. You can also host multiple landing pages on the same subdomain, like reviews.yourdomain.com/business1.
For either approach, you need to create two CNAME records with your DNS provider (typically the domain registrar – we do not recommend creating these records via your webhost or cPanel for the purpose of white-labeling our software) to point the subdomain directly at the landing page on our infrastructure.
For the example reviews.yourdomain.com or reviews.yourdomain.com/business1, you would create the following CNAME:
If you only want to host one single- or multi-location business on your subdomain (e.g. reviews.yourdomain.com), leave the Shared by multiple businesses? box unchecked. Then, for any business you want to live on this subdomain, simply select Subdomain under Dashboard > Funnel > Setup > Custom Domain and input your subdomain.
If you want to host multiple unique businesses on the same subdomain (e.g. reviews.yourdomain.com/business1), leave the Shared by multiple businesses? box checked.
